Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev won his initial championship for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-term coach Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents his initial title following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface from spring of that year.

Victory also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to get a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I got when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, comprising in that event previously this season.

The player's counter-punching strategy and frequent outbursts on court had led commentators to wonder if his ability to perform at the highest level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to approach the net and perform positively, backed up by an better serve.

He recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first tour championship, gained dominance to push for a third set.

Moutet rescued four early break points in a competitive deciding set before the Russian broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner secured the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
